Junot Diaz is the man, man.
The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Diaz. What an amazing book. A hilarious, harrowing, heartwarming account of the character Oscar de Leon (nicknamed Oscar Wao because of his resemblance to Oscar Wilde) and his Dominican family. I knew nothing about the Dominican Republic before reading the book, or the horror that was the Truillo regime. I loved the vulgarity. I loved the nerdy sci-fi references that I got. I loved the nerdy superhero references that I didn’t get. This book is unlike anything I’ve ever read—a shining example of what the modern novel should be.
